Privacy Policy

Notchlyric is a macOS app that displays the lyrics of the song currently playing on Spotify inside your Mac's notch. We designed it to be privacy-respecting: it runs locally on your Mac and collects as little data as possible.

What we do not collect

We do not run analytics or tracking inside the app.
We do not collect your listening history.
We do not sell or share personal data with advertisers.
We have no account system and never see your Spotify credentials.

Data the app handles

Now-playing info (local): Notchlyric reads the current track's title, artist, album, artwork URL, and playback position from the Spotify app on your Mac using macOS Apple Events. This stays on your device and is used only to fetch and sync lyrics.
Lyrics & artwork (network): To show lyrics and album art, the app sends the song title/artist to a third-party lyrics provider and loads artwork from Spotify's image URLs. Only the song metadata needed to find lyrics is sent.
License activation (network): When you enter a license key, it is sent to our payment provider Polar to validate and activate your device. Your license key and a device label (your Mac's name) are stored locally in the macOS Keychain.
Update checks (network): The app periodically requests a small JSON file from GitHub to see whether a newer version is available. This is a standard web request and is not used to identify you.

Third-party services
Lyrics requests, license validation (Polar), and update checks (GitHub) are subject to those providers' own privacy policies. We only transmit the minimum data required for each feature to work.

Data storage & retention
Your license key and activation identifier are stored securely in your Mac's Keychain and remain there until you remove the license or uninstall the app. Notchlyric keeps no server-side profile of you.

Children's privacy
Notchlyric is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
